There’s still a sense of will we/won’t we in the air in the UK at the moment, in regard to the restrictions brought on by the Covid-19 pandemic. Here in Scotland we’re still waiting for more updates from the federal government and the local authorities to see if our towns and cities can get back to some degree of normality at last. We’ve spent a long time waiting, that’s for sure.
With summer now having arrived, Dundee is ready and waiting to properly open up for business once again. When the better weather comes along, Scotland’s sunniest city becomes even more of a must-visit. As well as a plethora of superb traditional Scottish pubs on offer, there are a great many uber-cool wine bars, cocktail lounges and coffee houses offering al fresco enjoyment late into the night.
And with the regenerated waterfront area providing something of a focal point to the whole scene, there’s never been a better time to order up a pina colada, don your favourite pair of shades and take in the views of the River Tay. As you settle back in your comfy chair to watch the world go by, you can reflect on the importance of making the most of the season, the sunshine and the surroundings. It really is bliss.
One of the most pleasing aspects of enjoying drinks in Dundee these days is the sheer variety of establishments that you can choose from. Fancy a foaming pint of best in a pub that’s been in existence for more than a century? No problem. A glass of pinot grigio in an elegant pavement café? Absolutely. An exotic cocktail in a neon-lit hideaway? Step right in.
It’s also worth noting that, unlike many other cities, you can still enjoy a night out with friends and loved ones without having to spend a small fortune. Dundee, compared to elsewhere in the UK, is extremely affordable, so a city break here won’t leave you looking under the sofa cushions for a few pennies. And if you’re on an exceptionally tight budget, make sure you check out the bars and eateries close to the universities.
Dundee has evolved into one of the most talked-about city break destinations in recent times, and it really is easy to see why. You can enjoy days of sightseeing and activities both in and out of the city, and in the evening there are so many restaurants and bars to help you unwind. But don’t take our word for it, come and see for yourself! A great time is waiting to be had at last.
