Angus

Venturing out into the scenic beauty of Angus is always a pleasure, and there are so many good reasons to do so.

If you’re a history buff, why not go back in time at the 12th-century Arbroath Abbey? Or perhaps the stately splendour of Glamis Castle? JM Barrie’s birthplace at Kirriemuir is also worth a visit if you have small children with you, while the Montrose Air Station Heritage Centre is a must for plane enthusiasts.

There are so many activities to be enjoyed here, including fishing trips off the coast of Arbroath, mountain biking in Caddam Woods, exploring nature in Crombie Country Park, walking the Fairy Trail at Brechin Castle Centre and a great range of water sports at Carnoustie Bay. And if you fancy yourself as a straight shooter, test your clay pigeon shooting skills at the excellent Auchterhouse Country Sports.

Of course, no mention of Angus would be complete without mentioning the sport of golf. There are so many wonderful courses to be enjoyed here, ranging from relatively unknown venues right up to the Championship Course at Carnoustie, scene of so many unforgettable golfing moments from Open Championships of the recent and distant past. If you like golf, you’ll love it here.

And when you return to Dundee at the end of your day trip, you’ll be able to unwind however you please in this wonderful city. If you’re in the mood for a few drinks in a cool bar, a fabulous dinner in a welcoming restaurant or you just fancy putting your feet up with a glass of wine and a good book, everything you need will be easy to find. Making your great day out even greater really is a piece of cake here. It can be so reassuring to know that an eclectic food and drink scene is right here waiting for you.
