What’s On in Dundee over the next few weeks

As the summer begins to draw to a close, you may be wondering what’s on in Dundee? Be assured there’s plenty going on for folk to do, whether you’re Dundonian or visiting.

Maybe you’re partial to some live music – there’s an eclectic mix of music to choose from this month! Or, maybe you like nothing better than getting super competitive at a pub quiz.

We can confirm – Dundee and its rural neighbours has it all going on in September!

Here we’ve pulled together a hit list of what’s on in Dundee as autumn kicks in around Tayside.

A night at the opera

It’s an exciting time for classical music fanatics in Dundee as the very first Opera Festival Scotland is set to kick off in the city from Thursday 22nd – Saturday 24th September. The Festival is a celebration of music and community spirit with many community singers getting involved in the inaugural event.

A highlight is set to be Verdi’s Aida in Concert at 7.30pm at the Caird Hall on Saturday the 23rd. This will be the first time Aida has been performed in Dundee in 20 years. It’s a big opera with a great number of singers so the sound, created by many local community singers, will be incredible. It’s not to be missed.

The Street at the McManus

This exhibition has been such a hit that it’s run has been extended until January 2023. If you haven’t been yet, make sure you take yourself to The McManus to go on a trip down memory lane. The Street at McManus looks back at over 200 years of brewing and retail in Dundee. From toy shops to popular bars from yesteryear, this exhibition is truly special to people who have grown up in Dundee. Pure nostalgia and utterly brilliant. It’s immersive and completely multi-generational. It’s perfect for grandparents to take the grandchildren, have fun and reminisce. We also challenge anyone to fully take it all in in one visit. It definitely warrants repeat visits!

Dracula pays a visit to Glamis

Glamis Castle is kicking off Halloween season in style as it hosts a one-man show adapted from Bram Stoker’s famously macabre story of Dracula. From Victorian era theatre company, Don’t Go Into the Cellar, the unique show will be performed by the group’s Artistic Director Jonathan Goodwin on Saturday 1st October from 7pm-8pm. Amazingly, Jonathan plays many different characters from the novel.

The mix is diverse, from spooky one-man performances to a night at the opera. Something for everyone, no matter your tastes.
