A Cocktail Lounge with a menu for every taste

Dundee is about to celebrate the greatness of a delicious cocktail. From the 7th-16th of October, it’s Dundee Cocktail Week. To celebrate, cocktail lovers can purchase a wristband for £5 that gives you discount on cocktails at all the participating bars around the city. Sounds pretty good, doesn’t it?

One of those bars is 3 Session Street, a late-night cocktail lounge. Owners Gordon and Alison Hunter pride themselves on an exceptional and diverse cocktail menu. In fact, 3 Session Street are so expert at creating incredible cocktails that they run mixology masterclasses, where participants can ‘shake, stir and sip’ their way through a cocktail making session. How good does that sound?

For Gordon and Alison, their journey to running a cocktail bar, is an interesting one. Gordon used to work for a band that did covers and met Alison at a gig. They went on to get married. Fast forward a few decades and, after initially being silent investors in 3 Session Street, they have taken the leap to being sole owners and running the popular bar.

“We focus on creating bespoke cocktails made using premium spirits from around the world,” says Gordon. “Our bartenders are highly skilled and constantly looking at new ideas for cocktails to keep our menu fresh and relevant.”

A warm and inviting venue, a visit to 3 Session Street is a memorable ambience from start to finish, something Gordon and Alison are very proud to offer their patrons. “There’s a chilled laid-back vibe during the day and early evening, before we up the volume and get the music playing which transforms 3 Session Street into a party style venue for students and a younger crowd.”

When talking about the bar, talk always comes back to their eclectic variety of cocktails. ““We believe that there is a drink for everyone, and we pride ourselves on satisfying our customers in that respect,” says Gordon. “Our uniqueness comes from our cocktail menu and our back bar.”

And their customers are an eclectic mix too, with many regulars who like the laid-back vibe and being able to enjoy conversations without too much background noise. They also get customers from far flung places around the world from Australia to South America, as well as their students. “They bring atmosphere and a lot of fun to the bar,” says Gordon. “We are dog friendly as well, so we love to see canines in the bar.”

Gordon has also shared some of their most popular cocktails, including his own personal favourite tipple.

The Signature Cocktail

The bar’s signature and most popular cocktail is a White Chocolate Lemon Drizzle Cocktail. A combination of white chocolate liqueur, limoncello, vanilla vodka and syrup. The glass is coated in lemon syrup so you get the flavour of lemon as you sip from the glass.

“We think its popularity is down to the sweet and sour notes of the drink,” says Gordon. “The sour comes from the lemon, and the white chocolate brings the sweetness.”

A Fiery Experience

Gordon also recommends people whole like a bit of theatre try the 28 Days Later which is their take on a zombie-inspired cocktail. “We use 3 different rums in ours and we manage to set fire to it when serving them to the customer which is a neat trick and they love to see it.”

Gordon’s choice

Gordon and Alison share a love of the same cocktail. “This is quite unusual as we don’t share many other likes”, laughs Gordon. Their favourite is a Negroni which is made with equal measures of gin, Campari and vermouth with a slice of orange. “It makes for an extremely bitter drink and is an acquired taste for sure but packs an alcohol punch, possibly why we love them.”
